Our Mission

It was through our experience, and Liam's guidance, that we realized a change in pediatric healthcare needed to occur. It was not until Liam was in his final stage of life, that the term "Palliative Care" was introduced to us. In learning what palliative care means, we realized the necessity of implementing a palliative care approach at the onset of diagnosis. Liam's Room will provide a resource and comfortable place for families who have a child facing a chronic, potentially life-limiting, illness.

Our Purpose

It is because of Liam's way of weaving himself into our hearts, and showing us a love we never knew could exist, that we decided to create Liam's Room. It was Liam's spirit, tenacity and his ability to speak volumes through his beautiful blue eyes, that helped guide us through. We often wondered, why us?, but now we know that Liam was brought to us in order for us to leave this legacy for him.

Liam's Room Inc. was established in memory of Liam H. McNamara, to act as a resource for families with children who are battling chronic or potentially life limiting conditions. We hope that those who are walking along the same path find comfort and support from the services provided by Liam's Room.

It was because of the fragmented care that we experienced, that we came to hear the term palliative care. Unfortunately, we did now know that this type of care existed until Liam was in the final stage of life. It is through our contact with Palliative Care professionals, that we have come to learn of the importance of palliative care, and its implementation at the beginning of the journey, in partnership with all medical disciplines needed.

Liam's Room recognizes the necessity of implementing a palliative care approach at the onset of diagnosis, to fully support the family in their decisions and treatment choices. We recognize that each family is unique in their needs, beliefs and values.

Our Goals

* To provide a peaceful, comfortable, home like setting (Liam's Room) for families to spend their most challenging & loving moments together with their child, during inpatient treatment, respite, or end of life care

* To provide pediatric (infant to age 18) palliative care and respite services to families who are faced with a child battling a chronic or potentially life limiting condition

* To ensure that families have access to materials and resources to assist them in the decision making process of their childs care, incorporating physical, psychological, and spiritual components

*To increase awareness and educate the medical community on the necessity of pediatric palliative care as a critical component to treatment at the onset of diagnosis

* To provide funding for professional education and training on pediatric palliative care
